Maggie Viniard Marymount Volleyball Freshman Marymount freshman Maggie Viniard was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after posting four double-doubles and helping the Saints earn a spot in the CAC Tournament with a 3-1 record last week. Viniard set a new career high in assists three times last week, dishing out 42 against Catholic, then 46 in a five-set victory over Frostburg State to earn a bid into the CAC Tournament, and concluded the week with 48 against Lebanon Valley in another five-set thriller. With her 34 against Southern Virginia, she finished with 170 assists for the week as 9.44 per set. She notched 3.50 digs per set, including 18 in the crucial victory over Frostburg State. She also added five kills for the week, including a career-high four against Frostburg, and three service aces and three blocks on the week. Read More

Katelyn Newsome Christopher Newport Volleyball Senior Christopher Newport senior Katelyn Newsome was named the CAC Player of the Week after leading the Captains on both sides of the ball with a .333 hitting percentage and 18 blocks in a 3-0 week. In wins over St. Mary's, Southern Virginia, and Frostburg State, she averaged 2.80 kills and 1.80 blocks per set. Her finest performance came against Southern Virginia on Friday in a showdown between the last two remaining undefeated teams in league play. Against the Knights, she posted 11 blocks and 10 kills. With that performance, she became the first Captain to register double-digit figures in both categories in a single match since 2014. Her 11 blocks also equaled the fourth-highest single-match total in program history and the most ever in a four-set tilt. Along with her performance against SVU, she added a pair of nine-kill outings against St. Mary's on Wednesday and Frostburg State on Saturday. Penny Gwynn Southern Virginia Volleyball Senior Southern Virginia senior Penny Gwynn was selected as the CAC Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Knights to a 4-0 week without dropping a set, stretching their winning streak to 13 games. Gwynn averaged 5.17 kills per set while hitting .284. She averaged 5.7 points per set in the victories over Hollins, York, Penn State Harrisburg, and Bridgewater (Va.). Gwynn recorded at least 13 kills in each contest while also contributing 1.58 digs per set and adding six blocks for the week. For the season, Gwynn leads the CAC with 4.30 kills per set. Read More

LaRee Crockett Southern Virginia Volleyball Sophomore Southern Virginia sophomore LaRee Crockett was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after averaging 12.57 assists per set in a 2-0 week for the Knights. Crockett opened the week with 37 assists in a 3-0 sweep over Shenandoah. She followed that up with a career-high 51 assists in a 3-1 triumph against Frostburg State. Crockett also notched 15 digs in the win over FSU to post a double-double. Read More

Penny Gwynn Southern Virginia Volleyball Senior Southern Virginia senior Penny Gwynn was tabbed as the CAC Co-Player of the Week after averaging 5.27 kills and 6.5 points per set while leading the Knights to a 3-0 week. Gwynn opened the week with 18 kills, three service aces and four digs in a 3-0 sweep over Roanoke. She followed that up with 15 kills, three service aces and four digs in a 3-1 CAC-opening win against Salisbury. Gwynn then closed out the week with career-highs of 25 kills and five service aces along with nine digs and three blocks in a 3-1 triumph against Wesley. Read More

Josie Lucernoni Christopher Newport Volleyball Junior Christopher Newport junior Josie Lucernoni was named the CAC Co-Player of the Week after averaging 6.11 digs per set in leading the Captains to three straight sweeps while anchoring the back-row defense. She converted 29 of her 31 reception attempts for the week. On Tuesday, she posted 18 digs against Virginia Wesleyan, which equaled the most by a Captain in a three-set match since 2014. Four days later, she topped that effort after pocketing 22 digs in a 3-0 win over Marymount. That marked the highest total by a Captain in a three-set contest since four-time All-American Abby Hogge had 25 against UMass Boston on October 13, 2012. In between her historic efforts, she also secured 15 digs against St. Mary's (Md.) in the CAC opener on Friday. Along with her work on the defensive end, Lucernoni added at least one ace in all three of her appearances, including a pair against the Seahawks. She also dished out four assists against Virginia Wesleyan. Guided by Lucernoni's work on the back row, the Captains held the opposition to a combined .048 hitting percentage during the week. Hannah Allred Southern Virginia Volleyball Senior Southern Virginia senior Hannah Allred was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after averaging 4.67 kills and 2.83 digs per set while hitting at a .434% clip in a 2-0 week for the Knights. Allred opened the week with 16 kills, eight digs, three service aces and two blocks in a 3-0 sweep over Roanoke. She followed that up with 12 kills, nine digs, two blocks and an ace in another sweep over Emory & Henry. She contributed 5.8 points per set in the pair of wins for the Knights. Read More

Nicole Venturelli Salisbury Volleyball Junior Salisbury junior Nicole Venturelli was named the CAC Player of the Week after averaging 5.14 kills and 3.43 digs per set in a 3-1 week for the Sea Gulls at the Knights Invitational hosted by Neumann. Venturelli tied her season-high with 19 kills in a 3-0 win over Neumann before breaking her season-high with 23 kills in a five-set loss to Cabrini. For the week Venturelli totaled 72 kills, a hitting percentage of .279, 28 digs, and two double-doubles. Her 178 kills and 4.34 kills per set currently ranks atop the CAC. Read More
Tionne Graves-Brown, Wesley, Volleyball, Senior
Tionne Graves-Brown Wesley Volleyball Senior Wesley senior Tionne Graves-Brown was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after leading the Wolverines to a 4-0 week and earning All-Tournament Team honors at the Catholic University of America Guetle Invitational. In Wesley's four matches, she notched 48 digs, 46 kills, eight blocks and four double-doubles. For the week, she averaged 3.54 kills per game at a .389% clip and 3.69 digs per game. She also became Wesley's all-time career leader in kills at the tournament, surpassing Lilia Brekke's mark of 769 kills. Read More

Caroline Hanson Marymount Volleyball Junior Marymount junior Caroline Hanson earned CAC Player of the Week accolades after tallying four triple doubles last week in a 3-1 start for the Saints. Hanson, who finished last season ranked sixth in Division III with four triple doubles, averaged 14.3 kills, 17.3 assists and 13.3 digs for the week while also adding eight total blocks and four service aces. She posted a career-high 15 kills in the season opener against Cabrini before surpassing that with 18 kills against Virginia Wesleyan. Read More
