The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team picked up their fifth straight Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team award while eight Seahawks and two members of the CAC Champion Mary Washington Eagles were selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

St. Mary's was the only Capital Athletic Conference women's tennis program to be recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team as the Seahawks posted a 3.55 cumulative team grade point average for the 2011-12 academic year.  The Seahawks were one of 61 Division III institutions honored by the ITA this year.

The ITA All-Academic Team Award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).  All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2011 and spring 2012).

Representing St. Mary's as 2011-12 ITA Scholar-Athletes were graduating seniors Jackie Brady, Alli Crawford, Sarah Minkoff and Kathleen Ramsey; rising seniors Chelsea Bradcovich, Shelby Mullennix, and Marie Rau; and rising sophomore Melissa Bowman.

Brady, this year's St. Mary's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and Ramsey both finished their careers as four-time ITA Scholar-Athletes while Crawford is a three-time honoree.  Minkoff, Bradcovich, and Rau are all repeat selections.

Representing UMW as ITA Scholar-Athletes were Jocelyn Lewis and Alexandra Ritter.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a GPA of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including first-year thorough senior year).
