CAC Well Represented at NCAA Division III Women's Swimming Championships
Eight Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) female swimmers are preparing to compete at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming Championships which will be held at the University of Houston March 8-10. St. Mary's (Md.) sophomore Brie McDowell along with a contingent of swimmers from the University of Mary Washington, including seniors Amy Carlson, Maureen Greenlee, and Tricia Dilger; juniors Kristen LaCoe and Lorena de la Garza; sophomore Mallory Cruise; and freshman Michelle Sawyer will compete at the championships. Over 200 athletes from more than 60 schools from across the country qualified for the meet. McDowell is seeded third in the 100 Back, fourth in the 200 Back and tenth in the 200 IM. For UMW, the 200 medley relay is seeded ninth, the 400 freestyle relay is seeded 12th, the 400 medley relay is seeded 12th, and the 200 freestyle relay is seeded 13th. UMW will also compete in the 800 free relay.
Individually, Carlson will compete in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly (where she is seeded fifth), and the 100 freestyle; Greenlee will swim the 50 and 100 yard freestyle; Dilger will swim the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM; de la Garza will swim the 100 and 200 yard butterfly; and Sawyer will compete in the 200 IM.
