York senior defender Lauren Stewart, Stevenson sophomore forward Stephanie Eyler and Salisbury senior defender Hillary Grove were named to the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All South Region women's soccer team.
Stewart earned first-team all-region recognition while Eyler, the CAC Player of the Year, was a second-team honoree and Grove, who joined Eyler on the ECAC South all-region team, was a third-team NSCAA All-Region selection.
Stewart garners the program's fifth all-region selection as the Spartans' have had honorees in each of the past five seasons. She started in all 15 games in which she played before being sidelined by a late-season injury. With Stewart in the starting lineup, the Spartans posted an 11-3-1 record and had outscored their opponents by a 41-21 margin. Aside from her all-region accolades, Stewart also collected first-team All-Capital Athletic Conference honors this season after also being a first-team all-league selection last season.
For the second-straight season, Eyler scored a CAC record 22 goals, including one in a 4-3 victory over Frostburg State at home on September 12. She also added four assists for a total of 48 points. The CAC Player of the Year and ECAC South all-region choice, Eyler led the CAC in both goals and points for the second consecutive season and in just two years, has totaled 44 goals and 97 points in only 40 career games. Stevenson advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Division III South Championship and finished the season with a school record 15 victories, tying the mark set by the 2006 squad. The team also set a school record with a 10-game win streak and won a share of the CAC regular season title.
Grove has been a cornerstone for the Sea Gulls in each of the past four years as she led the team to the CAC regular season championship three times. The four-year starter has helped the Sea Gulls post a combined 0.72 goals allowed average. Salisbury allowed just 0.52 goals per game this season, due in large part to Grove's play and leadership on the field. The Hagerstown, Md., native was key in 2009 on Salisbury's set pieces, taking most of its corner kicks and free kicks. This past season, Grove scored three goals in a span of three matches, posting a career-high seven points.
