St. Mary's Tops FDU-Florham, 16-15, In First Round Of NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament

Junior attacker Emily Norris netted the game-winner with 3:45 left in regulation, advancing No. 14 St. Mary's College of Maryland to Saturday's NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Regional Semifinal as the Seahawks posted a 16-15 triumph over Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Wednesday afternoon in NCAA first round action.

The Seahawks (15-5), who are appearing in their seventh NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament, will now face No. 1 Salisbury University (20-0) at 11:30 a.m. in Salisbury, Maryland in the first of two regional semifinal contests being hosted by Salisbury. 

Saturday's match-up will be the third meeting between the two teams this season with the Sea Gulls coming away with two victories (18-11 on April 5 at St. Mary's and 18-7 on April 25 in the Capital Athletic Conference Championship at Salisbury).

The Seahawks, now 3-6 all-time in NCAA Tournament action, were paced by junior midfielder Lauren Carrier with a game-high five goals, while sophomore attacker Kelsey Branch dished out a game-best four assists.

SMC freshman goalkeeper Ella Schoming played tough in goal, making seven saves in the victory.
