Salisbury Women's Lacrosse Stops St. Mary's For Third Time This Season, Hosts Catholic In Regional Title Match Sunday

Salisbury broke loose for a 13-4 halftime lead and went on to defeat CAC rival St. Mary's for the third time this season to advance to Sunday's NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Regional Championship match, where the Sea Gulls will face former CAC foe Catholic University.
2008 CAC Player of the Year Sue Ackerman poured in seven goals and added three assists as SU downed St. Mary's, 22-9, in Saturday's third meeting this season between the two teams. SU (21-0) defeated the Seahawks (15-6) earlier this season by 18-11 (regular season) and 18-7 (CAC Championship) margins.
Jess Chmielewski chipped in four goals and a helper while Kim Cudmore dished out five assists for the Sea Gulls. In goal, Sonja Stuart registered nine saves on 18 shots.
The St. Mary's attack was led by Lauren Carrier with five scores. 2008 CAC Rookie of the Year Aileen McCausland was second on the scoring list with two goals and one assist for three points. Between the pipes, Ella Schoming was credited with 11 stops on 33 SU attempts.
Salisbury, the No. 1-ranked team in the country, will host Catholic University Sunday (1 p.m.) for the opportunity to advance to next week's Final Four in Salem, Va. Catholic advanced with a 17-15 victory over Rowan.
