D3hoops.com Middle-Atlantic Region Team

Southern Virginia sophomore forward Katie Garrish and Christopher Newport junior guard Kiana Kirkland were each named to the D3hoops.com All-Middle-Atlantic First Team, while Southern Virginia's Adam Wardenburg was selection the region's Coach of the Year, the organization announced on Tuesday. 

Garrish's stellar year anchored Southern Virginia's historic season (21-6 overall, 10-4 CAC) as she has set multiple single-season program records, including total points, points per game, total rebounds, rebounds per game and total blocks for the Knights.

The Annandale, Virginia native currently sits in the top-30 nationally in eight separate statistical categories; she is second in blocks per game, third in total blocks and double-doubles, and eighth in rebounds per game. Garrish received CAC Player of the Week honors five times while leading the CAC in rebounds (13.9) and blocks (3.4) and was second in points per game (17.7).

With the rest of the Captains, Kirkland put the finishing touches on her junior season this weekend as the team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the fourth straight time. Kirkland has been a part of all three, but this season, she took control as the team's leading scorer. Kirkland averaged 11.9 points while shooting nearly 40% from the field in her third season. She started 27 of 28 games played and averaged 21.3 minutes per game. 

Kirkland was a leader on both ends of the floor, as she ranked in the top three in steals as well, hauling in a career-best 57 thefts for an average of over two per game. She also grabbed 2.6 rebounds and dished out nearly two assists per contest for the Captains. A dangerous shooter, Kirkland hit 35% of her three-pointers while converting 77% of her free-throws this season.
