November 30, 2011 Four CAC Teams In National Rankings As 2011-12 Men's And Women's Basketball Teams Open Conference Play Tonight

Three CAC men's basketball teams - led by undefeated Salisbury - and one women's basketball team is either nationally ranked or listed among the honorable mention teams in the D3hoops.com polls entering tonight's first conference games of the season.

The Salisbury men's basketball team, under first-year coach Josh Merkle, rode a 4-0 start and a championship in the Pride of Maryland Tournament to the 20th spot in the D3hoops.com rankings.

St. Mary's (3-2), which was ranked 15th in the preseason poll, along with 4-1 Mary Washington, are both among "others receiving votes" in the Nov. 27 rankings.  SMC finished third in the Pride of Maryland Tournament.  Mary Washington's only loss, an overtime setback at home vs. Christopher Newport, was reversed three days later when the Eagles toppled Christopher Newport by four points in Newport News, Va.

The only undefeated team in CAC women's basketball - 4-0 Mary Washington - has climbed into the "Others Receiving votes" category in the D3hoops.com poll.

Tonight's CAC opening games feature four doubleheaders - Salisbury at Hood, York at Wesley, Mary Washington at Stevenson and Frostburg State at Marymount.
