January 18, 2010 Marymount Raises Funds For Aid To Haiti At Monday's CAC Hoop DH Vs. Hood

Marymount University collected donations for the American Red Cross for the victims in Haiti at its January 18 Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader against Hood College. In lieu of their admission costs, fans were asked to donate instead.

The crowd donated $1039 dollars, which the University administration has promised to match.

"It was gratifying to see the Marymount community come together for such a good cause," said athletic director Bill Finney. "We can only hope our gifts will help ease some of the suffering that the Haitian people have endured."

Fans also observed a moment of silent prayer for Haiti and its victims and survivors prior to the women's game.

The 5th-ranked Marymount women's team topped Hood in the opening game of the twinbill, 70-44.  In the nightcap, the Hood Blazers outlasted the host Saints by a 61-60 margin.
