February 5, 2010 INTRODUCING ... Stevenson University Junior Women's Basketball Standout Kristen Steiner

Stevenson University women's basketball junior forward Kristen Steiner, this week's INTRODUCING ... featured student athlete, is currently ranked fourth in the conference in rebounding, averaging a career-best 10.1 per game. She is also the CAC's leading shot blocker, averaging 2.4 per game.

In just three seasons, Steiner is ranked second in school history with 93 blocked shots, fifth with 537 rebounds and eighth with 101 steals. She also has eight career double doubles, including three this season.

What is your background in the sport you play? I have been playing basketball for 15 years. I stated playing when I was five years old and played for Forest Hill Rec. and advanced to Forest Hill Travel. After attending Fallston Middle School, I began playing for Fallston Rec. and Fallston Travel. I played AAU for the Maryland Waves and then played three years of varsity basketball at Fallston High School. I was a two-time all-county selection, earning first team honors as a senior.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  My favorite spot on campus is Sub Connection on the Greenspring campus. It is a great place to meet friends to eat and just hang out.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?  The most important social issue facing college students is peer pressure. Students can be easily influenced by their friends in an environment where they are out on their own for the first time. It is important to stand up for what you believe in and not let others lead you in the wrong direction.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?  My major is Accounting. The most important thing I learned is that it is important to be able to research and keep up to date on new issues and policies in the business world.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life? The most influential person in my life is my best friend Tara Galvin. She was my teammate and roommate for two years when I came to play for Stevenson University. She has been a great influence in my basketball career as well as in my life. She was our leading scorer last season and I hope to follow in her footsteps. She has started her coaching
career at Towson University where she is a volunteer assistant with the women's basketball team.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?  One piece of advice I would give to elementary children is to follow your dreams. When you're a child in elementary school, you have all the options in the world and just need to work for what you want in life. Anything is possible.

What is your favorite form of entertainment? My favorite form of entertainment is playing sports. I have played softball, soccer, basketball and volleyball in addition to horseback riding. I love anything competitive and will continue to play sports for the rest of my life.

Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?  My favorite team is the Baltimore Ravens. I love watching football with my family and friends.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?  I would like to have dinner with Ray Rice, Channing Tatum, and Spongebob Squarepants. Ray Rice is my favorite player on the Ravens' team. He a young player and has so much potential. Channing Tatum is a great actor. I enjoy the movies he plays in and I would just like to meet him in person. Finally, Spongebob Squarepants is one of my favorite TV shows and it would be so much fun to have dinner with a fictional character like him.
