February 3, 2010 Mary Washington And Marymount Win Hours After The First NCAA Women's Basketball Regional Rankings Were Released

Just a few hours after the first NCAA Division III women's basketball regional rankings were released, Mary Washington and Marymount justified their positions with conference victories.

Mary Washington (16-3, 11-0 CAC), ranked third in the region but unranked in two national Top 25 polls, downed visiting Stevenson (5-14, 3-9 CAC) by an 81-30 margin.  Sophomore guard Katie Wimmer scored 19 points while classmate Lauren Kornacki added 13 points for the Eagles, who extended their win streak to 10 games.

Marymount (20-1, 11-1 CAC), ranked 8th nationally and fourth in the region, cruised to a 75-57 triumph at York (8-12, 4-7 CAC).  The Saints, winners of five-straight games and the only road team to win a CAC basketball game Wednesday, was led by junior guard Amanda Billy with a game-high 18 scores.

Salisbury and Wesley both posted comfortable home victories to move into better position for the upcoming CAC playoffs.

The Sea Gulls (8-11, 5-6 CAC) moved into a tie for fourth place in the standings with an 87-48 win over Gallaudet (10-9, 5-7 CAC), which currently holds the final position for the six-team playoff tournament.  Salisbury senior forward Kylie Hall notched her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds while Glen Charlton finished with 18 points and tied her single-season high in steals, grabbing five.

Wesley (12-8, 7-5 CAC), which snapped a two-game slide and has won nine of its last 11 outings, solidified its hold on third place with a 79-41 decision over Hood (4-15, 1-11 CAC).  Juniors Angie Owens (23 points, 13 rebounds) and Cory Boyd (14 pts., 10 assists) each turned in double doubles for the Wolverines.
