Marymount University junior Kathleen Brown and York College senior April Sparkman were named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District College Division Women's Basketball Team.
Nominees for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program must be a starter or significant reserve on their team, at least a sophomore in class rank and have compiled at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. College Division includes all NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA programs.
Brown, a health sciences major with a 3.79 cumulative grade point average, is making her second-straight appearance on the Academic All-District III second team. District III includes all players from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
Brown recently became the 17th player to score her 1,000th career point at Marymount, which is second in the CAC standings with a 16-4 overall record (9-2 CAC). The Saints are ranked #24 in this week's USA Today/ESPN/WBCA national poll.
Sparkman, an undeclared major with a 3.89 cumulative grade point average, was voted to the Academic All-District II second team. District II includes all players from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Sparkman, with a 15.7 scoring average and a 5.7 rebounding average, is the second-leading scorer and third-leading rebounder for York, which is ranked #12 in both the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA and the d3hoops.com national polls.
