Gallaudet senior libero Shana Lehmann and Salisbury senior middle hitter Nicole Massarelli were named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Volleyball Team, selected by the College Sports Infomation Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Lehmann and Massarelli were both selected to the All-District 2 first team and will advance to the national Academic All-America ballot.  Results of the national voting will be announced November 23, 2009.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

District 2 includes all student-athletes from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA teams from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Lehmann holds a 3.93 grade point average and is an elementary education major. She is currently ranked No. 13 in the nation for digs per set (6.32). The Frederick, Md., native has tallied a Capital Athletic Conference best 673 digs in 30 matches played, in 106 sets, to go with 41 assists and 25 service aces. Lehmann was also a member of the USA deaf volleyball team that earned a silver medal in the 2009 Deaflympics this past September in Taipei, Taiwan.

Massarelli, whose major is mathematics, currently boasts a 3.97 GPA. Receiving accolades for academic achievement is nothing new to the senior, as she was named to the Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic Team in 2007 and '08. Her success in the classroom is equally as impressive as her success on the court, as Massarelli has posted 215 kills and 62 digs on the season. She also leads the team in total blocks, with 131. 

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
