Wesley College Names Betsy Hayden as New Head Volleyball Coach
DOVER, Del. - Betsy Hayden has been named the new head volleyball coach and physical education instructor at Wesley College, according to Mike Drass, Executive Director of Sports & Recreation.
Hayden is originally from upstate New York where she was an Athletic Director, High School Administrator and Volleyball Coach. She has been a successful volleyball coach on all levels for many years. While coaching at Onondaga Community College, she quickly accumulated over 100 victories in just five years at the college level. Betsy's teams either won or shared the regular season conference title every year and won three conference championship tournaments. Her squads also appeared in the Regional Tournament every year, advanced to the regional championship match three times and won one Region III Tournament. Onondaga also appeared in the Women's National Volleyball Championship Tournament, finishing in the country.
As coach at Onandaga, Betsy won Coach of the Year honors at the conference, regional and districts level, while her squads produced several conference and regional players of the year, as well as conference and regional all-stars, tournament MVPs, tournament all-stars, national championship tournament all-stars, and multiple All-Americans.
In addition to OCC, Betsy coached volleyball at several high schools in upstate New York, where she guided teams to league titles and sectional appearances. Betsy coached all-league selections, as well as a league layer of the year, while also earning coach of the year honors herself.
Betsy also has experience coaching field hockey at the High School level. Betsy has also coached softball at the high school and college level.
As a college athlete, Betsy was also a vital member of teams that participated in the Women's College National Volleyball Championship Tournament and back-to-back National College Women's World Series Softball Championships. Betsy has also been an official in volleyball, field hockey and softball, and served on various boards of directors for officials and served on many committees for women's sports as well.
Betsy holds an A.S. and A.A.S. in Recreation Leadership from Onondaga Community College, a B.S. in Physical Education from Syracuse University, an M.S.E.D. in Health Education from S.U.N.Y. Cortland, and a C.A.S. from S.U.N.Y. Cortland. She is certified by the state of New York state as a School District Administrator, Physical Education Teacher, and Health Education Teacher.
Betsy is married to her husband Tom and has three children, a son, T.K., who is a freshman at the University of Texas at Dallas, and two daughters, Skylar and Savannah, that are in middle school.
