Leah Andrews Christopher Newport Softball Senior Christopher Newport senior Leah Andrews was honored as the CAC Player of the Week for the second time this season after smacking three home runs with 12 RBIs and nine runs scored in a 3-1 weekend for the Captains, who advanced to the CAC Championship. Andrews went 6-for-12 at the plate with a grand slam, a three-run homer, a two-run shot and a double. She also managed four walks, posting a .625 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of 1.333. Read More

Laura Kate Moss Christopher Newport Softball Sophomore Christopher Newport sophomore Laura Kate Moss was selected as the CAC Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 against Penn State Harrisburg and Frostburg State, helping the Captains advance to the CAC Championship. Moss went the distance in both wins, striking out a total of eight batters in 12 innings of work. She got the start in the deciding game of the three-team CAC Tournament pod and responded with a two-hit shutout against Frostburg State to lead the Captains to the final vs. Salisbury. She allowed just six hits and four earned runs in her 12 innings in the circle, tallying a 2.33 ERA. Read More

Aubrey Bates Christopher Newport Softball Sophomore Christopher Newport sophomore Aubrey Bates was named the CAC Pitcher of the Week for the third straight week and fourth time this year after going 3-0 and striking out 13 in 14 innings pitched. Bates allowed four runs, all unearned, posting a perfect 0.00 ERA last week. She surrendered just nine hits in victories over Mary Washington, Southern Virginia and Frostburg State. She is now 14-1 this season for the Captains, and is 26-4 in her career at CNU. Read More

Rachael Payne Christopher Newport Senior Softball Christopher Newport senior Rachael Payne was named the CAC Player of the Week after going 15-for-20 (.750) at the plate with seven RBIs and 12 runs scored in a 6-0 week for the Captains, who locked up the top seed in the CAC Tournament. Batting from the No. 2 spot in the order, Payne managed at least one hit and one run scored in all six contests, totaling three doubles, a triple and three stolen bases with an on-base percentage of .783 and slugging percentage of 1.000. She began the week by going 5-for-6 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored in a sweep of Mary Washington. She followed that up with a 3-for-5 performance against Southern Virginia with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. Aubrey Bates Christopher Newport Softball Sophomore Christopher Newport sophomore Aubrey Bates was tabbed as the CAC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season after throwing the 24th no-hitter in CNU softball history, and first in over four years, Saturday at Penn State Harrisburg. She struck out eight Lions and issued just two walks while facing just 23 batters. It completed a 2-1 week for the sophomore, who is now 11-1 on the season for the fourth-ranked Captains. Bates also threw a five-inning complete game win vs. York and lost her first game of the year to top-ranked and undefeated Virginia Wesleyan. For the week, she totaled 13 strikeouts and allowed just three earned runs for an ERA of 1.17 in 18.0 innings of work. Read More

Haley Hirn York Softball Senior York senior Haley Hirn was chosen as the CAC Co-Player of the Week after hitting .652 (15-for-23) with five RBIs, eight runs scored, four doubles, two home runs and 25 total bases in a 4-3-1 week for the Spartans. Hirn registered at least two hits in six of the eight contests, and posted an on-base percentage of .679 and slugging percentage of 1.087. In the doubleheader sweep over Mary Washington, Hirn recorded her 100th career hit with a home run. Read More

Annie Pietanza Salisbury Softball Senior Salisbury senior Annie Pietanza was named the CAC Co-Player of the Week after hitting .643 (9-for-14) with nine RBIs, seven runs scored, and at least two hits in each game in a 4-0 week for the Sea Gulls. Pietanza slugged 1.357 with six of her nine hits going for extra bases, knocking four doubles and a pair of home runs. She is currently on a nine-game hitting streak with at least two hits in seven of those games. In Salisbury's two closest games of the week, Pietanza registered key hits. Her RBI double in the fifth inning of a 6-0 win at SVU pushed the lead to 3-0 and she capped the scoring with a two-run home run in the seventh. In the eighth inning of a 5-2 win against Frostburg State, it was Pietanza's solo home run to lead off the eighth inning and give Salisbury a 3-2 lead, proving to be the game winner. Read More

Aubrey Bates Christopher Newport Softball Sophomore Christopher Newport sophomore Aubrey Bates secured CAC Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this year after posting a 2-0 mark on the mound with a pair of complete games to help the Captains extend their winning streak to 12 games. Bates opened the week with a five-inning shutout against Salisbury in an 8-0 win, striking out three and surrendering just three hits. She then posted a one-run seven-inning performance in a 6-1 victory over William Peace, striking out 10 and allowing three hits. She is now 9-0 for the 21-3 Captains. Read More

Ohanian scored three times, stole two bases and posted an on-base percentage of .600 and slugging percentage of .769 on the week. Emmett notched three walks and reached base at a .692 clip for the Lions in doubleheader sweeps over Wilson and Souther Virginia. Ginger Lewis York Softball Sophomore York sophomore Ginger Lewis earned CAC Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this year after recording a win, a save, and 18 strikeouts in the Spartans' doubleheader sweep over Franklin & Marshall. Lewis tossed a complete game in the opener against F&M, scattering two hits with 13 strikeouts as she carried the shutout to the top of the seventh. Lewis then came into game two and threw 3.0 innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit with one walk and five strikeouts. She earned the save with her three innings of work. Read More

Batting in the leadoff spot, Andrews hit a home run, smacked two doubles and also stole a base. She was not retired in seven total at-bats, also getting on base with a walk, hit by pitch, and registered a sacrifice fly. Andrews notched a 1.000 batting average, .857 on-base percentage and 2.250 slugging percentage in the twinbill. The eighth-ranked Captains are now 13-3 on the season. Read More

In her lone appearance of the week, Lewis allowed one unearned run and just two hits across 6.0 innings to earn her fifth win of the year. The 15 strikeouts broke the Spartans' previous record of 14 and marked the second time this year she has reached double-figure strikeouts in a game. Read More

Deppe allowed just 10 hits and two runs in 18.0 innings of work. She also totaled 17 strikeouts while walking nine. She threw a complete-game one-hitter in a 10-2 triumph over Randolph, and tossed a two-hitter with eight strikeouts in a 15-2 win over La Roche. Read More

Mehrling totaled five RBIs, three runs scored, three doubles and a home run in wins over SUNY New Paltz, Keuka, Hunter, and Roanoke. She also registered four walks to notch an on-base percentage of .813 to go along with a 1.250 slugging percentage. LeAnne Collins Salisbury Softball Senior Salisbury senior LeAnne Collins was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after reaching base 15 times in 17 plate appearances for a .867 on-base percentage and hitting .800 (8-for-10) during a 4-0 weekend for the Sea Gulls. Collins slugged 1.500 with a pair of doubles, a triple, and a home run and two RBIs. The triple was the 12th of her career, tying Collins for the Salisbury career mark in that category. Read More

Against Washington College on Saturday, Powell struck out four and gave up just three hits over five innings. Bates allowed only one run and eight hits through her two victories, registering an ERA of 0.64 in wins over Randolph-Macon and Davis & Elkins. She opened the week with eight strikeouts in a complete-game, 2-1 win over Randolph-Macon. She recorded all seven hits in a span of 10 at bats through the first three games of the weekend series that captured the conference title and top seed for CNU. Andrews hit .538 with a home run, triple, and two doubles, compiling a slugging percentage of 1.077. Read More

Lewis totaled 15 strikeouts in wins over Elizabethtown, Salisbury, and Wesley, helping the Spartans clinch the No. 4 seed in the CAC Tournament. She opened the week with a one-hit shout in a 6-0 win at Elizabethtown, carrying a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning. She then helped the Spartans snap a 24-game losing streak to Salisbury with a nine-inning, four-hit performance, surrendering just one run. Gatton notched at least one hit and one run scored in all five contests in which she appeared. She totaled 10 runs scored, nine RBIs, a triple, a double and three stolen bases, and registered a slugging percentage of 1.313 for the week. Ruleman hit .435 (10-for-23) with at least one hit and one RBI in seven of the eight games. Her top performance of the week came in game two of a twinbill sweep of Eastern, as she went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a home run, a double, and a run scored in an 8-3 victory. Ruleman had a three-game stretch in which she hit a home run, and also drew five walks and posted a 1.217 slugging percentage for the week. Read More

Shiflett's seventh-inning single in game two against York brought home the winning run, capping a five-run comeback by the Captains in an 8-7 victory. Lake went 7-for-10 at the plate and reached base at a .750 clip while posting a slugging percentage of 1.400. Three of her seven hits went for extra bases with a pair of triples and a home run, her third of the year. She knocked in three runs and scored five times on the week for the Sea Gulls. Read More

Short nearly tossed a pair of no-hitters, allowing just one hit in a win over Bridgewater (Va.) and surrendering two hits in a win over York. In between those two victories, she allowed three hits in a complete-game victory at Catholic. For the week, she totaled 14 strikeouts while allowing five earned runs and 17 hits in 27.0 innings of work. She did not walk a batter in any of her four appearances. Read More

Her top performance of the week came in game one against Trinity (D.C.), as she hit for the cycle with six RBIs and four runs scored. Siok totaled 24.0 innings in her four outings, surrending just four earned runs and walking two while recording 15 strikeouts. Her top performance was a complete-game shutout of Ursinus with six strikeouts. Siok is tied for the CAC lead in wins (6), second in strikeouts (31) and tied for the fifth-lowest ERA (1.50). Melissa Jurkiewicz York Softball Junior York junior Melissa Jurkiewicz earned CAC Pitcher of the Week honors after going 4-1 last week with a 0.58 ERA in 24.1 innings during the Spartans spring break trip to Clermont, Fla. Jurkiewicz totaled 20 strikeouts and did not walk a batter, scattering 14 hits throughout her five appearances. She began the week with five scoreless innings in a 9-0 win over Adrian on Tuesday, allowing two hits and striking out four. She came in relief in the 5-1 win over Rose-Hulman in Tuesday's second game, tossing six perfect innings with six strikeouts. Jurkiewicz allowed three runs, two earned, in the Spartans' 3-2 loss against MSOE as she scattered six hits with one strikeout. She bounced back with four shutout innings with five strikeouts in the win over Northwestern (Minn.).
