Third-seeded Mary Washington and fifth-seeded Wesley picked up first-round victories in the 2008 CAC Softball Playoffs Tuesday.

UMW held off a pesky Villa Julie squad for a 3-2 victory, advancing the Eagles to a second-round matchup Thursday (4/17) at second-seeded York.

Wesley went on the road to Frederick, Md., and upset fourth-seeded Hood by a 6-2 count to earn a trip Thursday to Salisbury, Md., to face the top-seeded Sea Gulls.

All six teams in the tournament will advance to the weekend competition at Salisbury of the double-elimination tournament, beginning Saturday (4/19) morning.  The championship game is slated for Sunday (4/20).
