St. Mary's College Of Maryland landed both men's and women's tennis teams, as well as half of the 22 Capital Athletic Conference individual players, on the 2008 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Academic Awards list.
The ITA All-Academic Team Award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. St. Mary's was one of 27 schools in Division III to have both the men's and women's squad tabbed as a 2008 ITA All-Academic Team. The Seahawk men and women, which both advanced to the 2008 CAC Tournament semifinals, were also the only Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) teams to earn the All-Academic Team Award.
Individually, SMC was represented by 11 players on the Scholar-Athlete list. Representing the women's team were Katherine Garlock, Erin Marzoli, Coleen O'Neil, Jerilyn Rogalski and Sarah Weisse while the six men's players honored included Jeremy Butanis, Alex Djinis, Brett Hermans, Travis Horrom, Viani Kamlev and Andrew MacLaughlin.
The University of Mary Washington, which successfully repeated as 2008 CAC champions in both men's and women's tennis, was also represented on both the men's and women's Scholar-Athlete list. The Eagles won their fifth-straight women's conference title while the men captured the trophy for the ninth-straight year.
