Kyle Baker's unassisted goal late in the first half proved to be the game winner as fourth-seeded Stevenson extended its winning streak to eight matches with a 1-0 victory over top-seeded Salisbury in the semifinal round of the 2009 CAC Men's Soccer Tournament.
Stevenson (13-8) will play at York in Saturday's Championship Game (starting time TBA). The second-seeded Spartans downed third-seeded Mary Washington by a 4-1 margin in Tuesday's other semifinal match.
At Salisbury, the Mustangs (12-8) were outshot 26-2 by the defending CAC champion Sea Gulls (14-3-1), who moved up to #17 in this week's NSCAA Division III rankings. Ryan Flannelly was credited with 14 saves in recording his fifth shutout of the season.
At York, the Spartans (14-1-4), who moved up to #12 in this week's NSCAA Division III rankings, got a goal and an assist from Kemal Nuspahic in the victory over the UMW (12-7-1). Each team scored on a second-half penalty kick after YCP took a 2-0 lead to the halftime break.
York will be trying to win its fourth men's soccer conference title since the inception of the CAC in 1991 and their third in the last five years. Stevenson, in just its third season as a member of the CAC, is looking for its first playoff title in any sport since joining the conference.
