October 31, 2009 Mary Washington Needs Overtime, But Joins Stevenson In Advancing To CAC Men's Soccer Semifinals

Mary Washington freshman Duke Mensah-Abrampah scored two goals, including the game winner in the second overtime period, to lift the Eagles past Marymount in the first round of the 2009 CAC playoffs.

UMW joins Stevenson, which topped Wesley by a 3-0 count, in advancing to Tuesday's conference semifinals.  The Mustangs were led by junior Tyler King, who found the back of the net twice against the Wolverines.

Tuesday's semifinals feature a pair of nationally-ranked teams hosting playoff games.

Top-seeded Salisbury (14-2-1, 7-0-1 CAC), ranked 24th nationally, will try to defend home turf against fourth-seeded Stevenson (11-8, 5-3 CAC).  Salisbury, the 2009 CAC regular-season champion and the two-time defending CAC playoff champion, topped the Mustangs by a 4-0 margin during the regualr season.

The other semifinal match will feature 17th-ranked York (13-1-4, 6-0-2 CAC) at home against third-seeded Mary Washington (12-6-1, 6-1-1 CAC).  York, the No. 3 seed in this year's tournament and the 2008 CAC regular-season champion, played to a scoreless draw in the regular-season showdown in Fredericksburg, Va., on Oct. 17.

The highest-seeded team will host the conference championship match on Nov. 7.
