Mary Washington And York Record First-Round Upset Wins In CAC Men's Lacrosse Playoffs
Mary Washington and York both went on the road and recorded upset victories to advance with Salisbury and Villa Julie to Thursday's semifinal round of the 2008 CAC Men's Lacrosse playoffs.
Sixth-seeded UMW rode a strong defensive effort in upsetting third-seeded St. Mary's, 7-4, while fifth-seeded York outdueled fourth-seeded Wesley by a 12-9 margin.
They will join top-seeded Salisbury, the No. 1-ranked team in the country, and second-seeded Villa Julie, the No. 10-ranked team in the country, in Thursday's CAC semifinals. Salisbury advanced with a 29-3 triumph over eighth-seeded Hood while VJ topped seventh-seeded Marymount by a 19-3 count.
Salisbury will host York Thursday at 4 p.m. while Villa Julie and Mary Washington will meet at Owings Mills, Md. (time TBA).
The conference championship game is slated for Sunday (4/20) at the home field of the highest-seeded team.
