All four home teams - Mary Washington, Salisbury, Wesley and York - posted victories in CAC men's basketball action Wednesday.
Wesley's win over Hood, a 63-58 decision, moved the Wolverines (13-6, 7-4 CAC) into third place in the CAC while dropping the Blazers (12-9, 7-5 CAC) into fifth place. Paul Reynolds had his first career double-double in the game with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds. Rudy Thomas added 15 points while Alphonzo Wright came off the bench for 10 points for Wesley, winners of six straight games.
York (16-4, 8-3 CAC) also supported the NCAA Division III men's basketball regional ranking committee's placement in the Middle Atlantic Region by outbattling Marymount (11-9, 6-5 CAC) for a 67-64 victory. Nick Brady led the Spartans with 18 points and eight rebounds while Paul Kouvaris notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Spartans are seventh in the first Middle Atlantic Regional rankings of the season, just two positions behind CAC leader St. Mary's (17-3, 9-2), which had the night off after downing Christopher Newport in overtime Tuesday.
Salisbury (11-8, 7-4 CAC), on a five-game ride, kept pace with Wesley in the CAC standings with a 64-50 victory over Gallaudet (4-13, 0-11 CAC). The Sea Gulls remain tied for third place with Wesley thanks to Greg Palmer (17 points, five rebounds) and Devin Jones (12 points). Thirteen different Sea Gulls saw playing time in the win, the 100th in the career of head coach Steve Holmes.
At Fredericksburg, Va., Mary Washington senior center Brandon Altmann scored 24 points to lead four players in double figures as the Eagles (7-11, 4-6 CAC) topped Stevenson (2-19, 2-10 CAC), 85-79. Junior guard Qaiser Ahmed scored 19 points and senior forward Eric Rolander added 17 points and seven rebounds for UMW, which snapped a five-game slide.
