Stevenson field hockey junior Kara Zimmerman
(Odenton, Md./Arundel) was named ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic
Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after receiving CAC Field
Hockey Player of the Week honors on Monday.
Both awards are the first career weekly honors for Zimmerman who is
also the first Mustang to receive weekly honors from the ECAC.
Zimmerman totaled 21 saves and an .840 saves percentage in two
games last week while posting a 1.95 goals against average.
She had 10 saves in a 3-2 overtime win over Wesley at home on
Thursday and added 11 in Sunday's 2-1 loss at York (Pa.) in the
first round of the CAC Field Hockey Championship.
The Mustangs finished the season with a 6-12 record and Zimmerman
had a career-best 172 saves. She also set the school record for
career saves and now has 420 in three seasons.
Zimmerman was the second Mustang to receive CAC player of the week
honors this season and the team's fourth selection over the last
three seasons.
Junior Katelyn Manocheh (Timonium/Maryvale Prep)
who was also named conference player of the week on October 5.
Manocheh also earned the honor on Nov. 3, 2008 while senior Raechel
Manly (Bel Air/Bel Air) was the first player to be honored by the
CAC on Oct. 9, 2007.
