A total of 59 runs scored in three games at Salisbury Friday as offense ruled the day in the second round of the 2012 CAC Baseball Tournament.
Game 1 featured a mid-game rally by sixth-seeded St. Mary's from a five-run deficit, only to see fifth-seeded Stevenson score the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to claim an 11-10 victory. SMC was eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.
Game 2 saw third-seeded Frostburg State gain the lead then hold off top-seeded host Salisbury down the stretch for a 9-7 victory. Salisbury had the first two batters on base in the bottom of the ninth, but the Gulls were unable to get either home.
Game 3 saw fourth-seeded Wesley take a 5-2 early lead, then explode for eight runs in the top of the sixth on the way to a 15-5 victory over second-seeded York.
Wesley, which advanced to the title game in 2009, is the only undefeated team among the five remaining in the tournament, which resumes at Salisbury Saturday at 9 a.m. The losers in Saturday's first two games will be eliminated from the tournament.
Game 7 (9 a.m.) will be a showdown between the top two teams from the regular season - Salisbury and York. Game 8 (12:30 p.m.) will pit Stevenson against Frostburg State. Wesley will wait for the last game of the day (Game 9, 4 p.m.) to play the winner of the Salisbury vs. York contest.
