June 23, 2009 Mary Washington's Will Wright Captures NCAA Statistical Championship for Toughest to Strike Out

University of Mary Washington junior left fielder WILL WRIGHT (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Priory) has captured the NCAA Division III statistical championship as the toughest player in all of Division III to strike out in 2009. Wright, a three-year starter, struck out just once in 110 at bats this season, or .909 percent of his at bats.

Wright joins UMW alum Brandon Cole as a national statistical champion in this category, as Cole was the toughest batter to strike out in his senior season in 2006. For the season, Wright batted a team-high .382 with 42 hits, 11 doubles, three triples, and one home run, with 27 RBI. He gained All-Capital Athletic Conference honors.
