St. Mary's Sr. Mike Broccolino Named To 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Baseball Team

St. Mary's College of Maryland senior Mike Broccolino (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Baseball First Team as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
With his first team selection, Broccolino now advances to the national ballot and has the potential to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors.
Broccolino earned this year's St. Mary's Male Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year honors after posting a 3.841 GPA as a mathematics major.
Excelling in the classroom, Broccolino was a two-year member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national collegiate student-athlete honor society for juniors and seniors, as he was inducted as a junior in 2007.
Broccolino was also a two-time St. Mary's Scholar, which is any junior or senior who has earned 32 credit-hours at the College and whose cumulative GPA is 3.50 or better.
He was also a member of the Dean's List, the CAC All-Academic Team and the athletic department's 3.0 Club throughout his career. Broccolino volunteered as a reading buddy at local area elementary schools through St. Mary's baseball's ‘Reading Buddies' initiative.
On the baseball diamond, Broccolino finished his senior campaign as the second best hitter with a .303 batting average on a fourth-best 33 hits in 109 at-bats.
He led the Seahawks in RBI (24), doubles (12), home runs (3) and walks as Broccolino drew 22 during St. Mary's 19-21-1 campaign, while owning a team-best .514 slugging percentage.
A two-year team captain, he sported a .957 fielding percentage in 35 games played with 33 starts. Broccolino was a two-time All-CAC Second Team pick in his four-year career.
