St. Mary's senior guard CAMONTAE GRIFFIN (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) and Wesley junior forward ANGIE OWENS (Seaford, Del./Seaford) were selected as the CAC Basketball Players of the Week for Feb. 8, 2010.
St. Mary's senior guard CAMONTAE GRIFFIN (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) was named CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week after firing in a game-high 34 points as the Seahawks won their only game of the week, a non-conference affair at Christopher Newport. Griffin drained 19-of-21 from the free throw line, including all 12 in the first half, and added four boards, two thefts and two assists.
Wesley junior forward ANGIE OWENS (Seaford,
Del./Seaford) was named the Capital Athletic Conference
Women's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging averaging 27
points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.0 blocked shots in a pair of victories
last week. Owens knocked down 10 of 14 shots on the way to scoring
23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds against Hood. The next night,
she followed up with a career-high 31 points on a 13-for-16
shooting performance, controlling 12 boards and rejecting eight
shots against Gwynedd-Mercy. It was Wesley's first 30-point
performance in three years and the most blocked shots in a game in
more than a decade. For the week, she hit 60% from three-point
range (3-for-5) and all five of her free throws.
