MEN'S BASKETBALL
Mary Washington senior center BRANDON ALTMANN (Vienna,
Va./Madison) and York senior guard NICK BRADY
(Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) were named CAC Men's
Basketball Co-Players of the Week, both for the second time this
season.
Altmann was dominant in UMW's only game of the week, a seven point road loss against defending CAC champion Wesley, scoring 33 points and hauling in 16 rebounds for his CAC-leading eighth double-double this year. He went 9-for-14 from the field and 15-for-16 at the line against the Wolverines, raising his season averages to double-double levels (20.9 points, 10.6 rebounds).
In York's only game of the week, Brady poured in 22 of his
game-high 30 points and added two boards, three steals and an
assist as the Spartans defended home court and completed the
regular-season sweep against Hood. Brady drained 10-of 16 shots,
including 6-of-10 from long range, and all four free throws to lift
YCP into second place in the standings, just a half game ahead of
the Blazers.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
St. Mary's senior guard STEPHANIE SAINT-AUBIN (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 28 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals in two conference games, including a win Saturday that kept the Seahawks in strong position for a CAC playoff berth. She was 18-for-26 from the field (69%) and 20-for-25 from the line (80%) in the two contests. Her best game was a 30-point, 12-rebounding and six steal outing in a two-point road win at Stevenson that kept SMC in fifth place with three weeks left in the regular season.
SPECIAL MENTION: York junior guard APRIL SPARKMAN (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) became the 13th player in team history to score her 1,000th career point Saturday against Hood. Sparkman finished with a team-best 22 scores in YCP's only game of the week.
