Gallaudet University Provost Dr. Stephen Weiner announced today several structural and personnel changes within Student Affairs. One of those changes was recognizing the accomplishments that Mr. Michael Weinstock has brought upon the Gallaudet Athletic Department as the Interim Athletic Director.
Per Provost Weiner's announcement, Mr. Weinstock has been named the Athletic Director, effective immediately. Mr. Weinstock will continue in his capacities and looks forward to a successful 2008-09 academic and athletic year for the Bison.
Under Weinstock's watch, GU has increased its number of full-time coaches and graduate assistant coaches and staff members, re-instated two sports (men's and women's cross country) and increased the University's awareness and support of academic success of the student-athletes, significantly increased its recruiting and summer camps.
Gallaudet also improved its visibility and image with a new athletic website, new logo, facility improvements with a new swimming scoreboard, adding lights and turf to the primary outdoor athletic field (used for football and soccer) and significantly increased its overall athletic budget.
GU is a charter member of the Capital Athletic Conference, which is entering its 19th season of all-sports competition in 2008-09.
