CAC Announces Weekly Award Winners For March 9, 2009

Stevenson senior P/1B WADE KEENAN (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), York senior CF RYAN POFF (York, Pa./Spring Grove), Salisbury junior catcher LAUREN BRENNEMAN (York, Pa./Central York) and York sophomore 3B KELLY SMITH (Riverdale, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Stevenson senior midfielder GREG FURSHMAN (Miami, Fla./Towson), Salisbury sophomore attack LOGAN BILDERBACK (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) and St. Mary's senior midfield/attack ALLIE ZERHUSEN (Cockeysville, Md./Park) were selected as the CAC Athletes of the Week for their respective sports for March 9, 2009.

BASEBALL

Stevenson senior P/1B WADE KEENAN (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and York senior CF RYAN POFF (York, Pa./Spring Grove) were named the CAC Baseball Co-Players of the Week after leading their respective teams to 6-0 records last week.

Keenan threw a two-hit complete-game shutout in Game 1 of Saturday's CAC twinbill against St. Mary's. Keenan fanned seven in a 1-0 victory, raising his season record to 2-0 in two starts with a 0.78 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 23 innings for the Mustangs, who have won seven-straight games.

Poff compiled a .538 batting average last week (14-for-26) with 10 runs scored, 13 RBI, six doubles and a homer. He posted an .885 slugging percentage, a .586 on-base percentage and stole two bases for YCP, which is has won nine-straight.

SOFTBALL

Salisbury junior C LAUREN BRENNEMAN (York, Pa./Central York) and York sophomore 3B KELLY SMITH (Riverdale, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) were named the CAC Softball Co-Players of the Week after hitting over .500 for their respective teams.

Brenneman went 8-for-17 with team highs of three homers, five RBI and six runs scored during Salisbury's play in the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast. In a DH sweep over 23rd-ranked Lynchburg Sunday, Brenneman contributed a homer, three runs scored and an RBI.

Smith led the 25th-ranked Spartans to a 7-3 record at the Rebel Games during Spring Break in Kissimmee, Fla. She hit .514 (18-for-35) in 10 games with three doubles, five RBI and eight runs scored. She had four three-hit games and another two-hit game while compiling a .600 slugging percentage and a .553 on-base percentage for the Spartans.

MEN'S LACROSSE

Stevenson senior midfielder GREG FURSHMAN (Miami, Fla./Towson) was named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week after contributing four goals, two assists, 10 ground balls and winning 20-of-29 faceoffs in the Mustangs' wins over #2 Gettysburg and Ursinus last week. Furshman won 11-of-17 faceoffs, controlled six ground balls and scored the game-winning goal as the 7th-ranked Mustangs dominated the Bullets. He then chipped in three scores and his second assist of the week in the win at Ursinus.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Salisbury sophomore attack LOGAN BILDERBACK (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) and St. Mary's senior midfield/attack ALLIE ZERHUSEN (Cockeysville, Md./Park) were named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Co-Players of the Week after registering career-highs and game-winning goals for their respective offenses last week.

 

Bilderback compiled a career-high seven points by scoring on all three of her shots, including the game-winning goal, and adding four assists as the second-ranked Sea Gulls downed 11th-ranked Catholic University. Bilderback, who also had one ground ball, was credited with her first game-winning score of the season.

Zerhusen scored 10 points on nine goals and a helper in a pair of triumphs for the 15th-ranked Seahawks. She started the week with a career-high six scores, including the game-winner, in a victory over Washington (Md.)In Saturday's win over visiting McDaniel, Zerhusen's third goal of the game, with just 28 seconds left, proved to be the game-winner in an 11-10 win. She also had eight draw controls and five ground balls during the week.
