Evan Thomas And Katie Schafer Win CAC Tennis Weekly Awards

Salisbury junior EVAN THOMAS (Salisbury, Md./Faith Baptist) and Mary Washington freshman KATIE SCHAFER (New Market, Md./Linganore) were selected as the CAC Tennis Players of the Week for March 3, 2009.

MEN'S TENNIS

Salisbury junior EVAN THOMAS (Salisbury, Md./Faith Baptist) was named the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week after winning all four of his matches last week. Thomas won twice at No. 2 singles and paired with Scott Burtzlaff to win a pair of matches at No. 1 doubles. Thomas provided half of Salisbury's team points in a loss to Washington & Lee and helped the Sea Gulls run away for a victory against Hampden-Sydney.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Mary Washington freshman KATIE SCHAFER (New Market, Md./Linganore) was named the CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after winning two of three singles matches at the first-ever ITA Indoor National Tournament at St. Peter, Minn. Schafer defeated Gustavus Adolphus' Allie O'Neal, 6-4, 6-1 in the first round, and then scored UMW's lone point in a 8-1 loss to Emory University with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kirsten Hillock.
