CAC Members Participating In Cancer Awareness And Take A Kid To The Game Day Promotions

Most of the Capital Athletic Conference basketball teams will participate in at least one, and in some cases several, opportunities to promote cancer awareness or the NCAA Take A Kid To The Game Day initiative.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, invites coaches to participate in the 2009 Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend January 30-February 1, 2009.

The NABC is encouraging member coaches and their staff to wear sneakers with their suits at games held that weekend to show support for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. Suits and Sneakers will unite coaches from across the country in the common effort to raise cancer awareness in their communities.

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.  The WBCA Pink Zone dates for 2009 will February 13-22.

The WBCA began the WBCA Pink Zone, formerly known as "Think Pink", in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year a success. In 2008, over 1,200 teams and organizations participated, reaching over 830,000 fans and raising over $930,000 for breast cancer awareness and research.

If you do not have a game during that window in which you can participate, feel free to select a game as close as you can to the dates listed.

In both the NABC and WBCA initiatives, coaches are free to select another home or road game "outside the window" of the promotion to participate in the cancer awareness programs, depending on their schedules.

The NCAA's "Take A Kid To The Game Day" is generally held any time during February.   This nationally-recognized event encourages adults to take children to collegiate athletic contests and stresses the importance of spending time together.
