St. Mary's junior guard CAMONTAE GRIFFIN (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) and Mary Washington freshman guard JENNA McRAE (Springfield, Va./Annandale) were selected as the CAC Basketball Players of the Week for Feb. 2, 2009.
St. Mary's junior guard CAMONTAE GRIFFIN (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) was named CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 26.5 points, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a 2-0 week, solidifying the Seahawks' hold on second place in the CAC. Griffin was 10-for-10 from the field on the way to 23 points and dished out a season-best seven assists in a mid-week victory over Stevenson. Saturday, as SMC improved to 2-1 in overtime games this season, Griffin downed 30 points, one shy of his season high, by hitting 11-of-19 from the field, including half of his six long-range attempts.
Mary Washington freshman guard JENNA McRAE (Springfield, Va./Annandale) was named the CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the first time in her career after averaging 17 points in a pair of wins for the Eagles, who are tied with Marymount as the 25th-ranked team in the country, according to the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division III poll. McRae doubled her season average with a game-high 21 points, including five long-range shots, in a midweek win over Salisbury. She then added 13 scores, six boards and four assists in Saturday's victory at Hood.
