Mary Washington Sophomores Stephen Clendenin And Sarah Crockett Win CAC Weekly Swim Awards

Mary Washington sophomores STEPHEN CLENDENIN (Ashburn, Va./Home Schooled) and SARAH CROCKETT (Toano, Va./Lafayette), the 2008 CAC Rookies of the Year, were selected as the conference Swimming Athletes of the Week for Nov. 25, 2008.


Mary Washington sophomore STEPHEN CLENDENIN (Ashburn, Va./Home Schooled) was named the CAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week after registering three NCAA "B" cuts along with three school and conference records at the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational, competing against primarily NCAA Division I competition. In the qualifying races, Clendenin, the 2008 CAC Rookie of the Year, broke school and CAC records, and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships, in the 200 IM (1:54.48) and the 400 IM (4:05.93), and followed with a national qualifying standard in the 200 butterfly (1:53.48). He also anchored the Eagles to a UMW and CAC record-breaking performance in the 800 freestyle relay (6:59.93).


Mary Washington sophomore SARAH CROCKETT (Toano, Va./Lafayette) was selected the CAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week after recording two NCAA "B" cuts at the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational over the weekend. Crockett placed 15th against primarily NCAA Division I competition in the 500 freestyle with a provisional national qualifying time of 5:05.64, then placed 18th in the 200 free with another "B" cut time of 1:53.80. She also contributed to a number of strong relay-team performances, including a 53.45 opening leg on the 400 free relay, which is the fourth-fastest 100 time in team history.
