November 17, 2008 CAC Announces Weekly Basketball Award Winners For Nov. 17, 2008

Marymount senior men's basketball forward MIKE GRAY (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens-St. Agnes), Wesley senior men's basketball guard RASHAWN JOHNSON (Selbyville, Del./Sussex Tech), Mary Washington freshman women's basketball guard KATIE WIMMER (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and St. Mary's senior women's basketball forward ALLIE SCOTT (Laurel, Md./Atholton) were selected as the CAC Basketball Players of the Week for Nov. 17, 2008.

 

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Marymount senior forward MIKE GRAY (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens-St. Agnes) and Wesley senior guard RASHAWN JOHNSON (Selbyville, Del./Sussex Tech) were named CAC Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week for Nov. 17, 2008.

Gray posted a double-double with team-highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds, as well as dishing out four assists, in Marymount's six-point win against Randolph. Gray hit two free throws early in the second half to reach the 1,000-point milestone for his career, then added several key shots down the stretch to secure the win.

Johnson exploded in his first game of the season, pouring in 14 of 28 shots on the way to 35 points, at North Carolina Wesleyan. Johnson's last hoop of the night broke Wesley's career scoring record, lifting his career total to 1,792 points. 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Mary Washington freshman guard KATIE WIMMER (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and St. Mary's senior forward ALLIE SCOTT (Laurel, Md./Atholton) were named the CAC Co-Women's Basketball Players of the Week after registering 20-point performances for their respective teams during the opening weekend of play.

Wimmer led UMW to a 15-point win at Bridgewater by scoring a game-high 20 points and grabbing a team-leading eight rebounds. She was 7-for-9 from the field and 6-for-6 at the line in her first collegiate game.

Scott averaged 19 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Seahawks placed second in their season-opening tournament. She kept SMC in the championship game with 23 points, including three long-range shots, against Susquehanna.
