Salisbury junior CORY BEEBE (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf), Mary Washington freshman BRITTANY HORRIGAN (Reading, Mass./Reading) and Salisbury freshman JENNIFER HOUGHTON (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) were selected as the CAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week for May 5, 2009.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Salisbury junior CORY BEEBE (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf) was named the CAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the second-straight week after winning four events and being named the Track Athlete of the Meet at the Mason-Dixon Championships at Frostburg State. Beebe swept top honors in the 400 (48.63), 400 hurdles (55.72), 110 hurdles (14.94) and the javelin (50.72) to lead the Sea Gulls to its first team title in the four-year history of the event.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Mary Washington freshman BRITTANY HORRIGAN (Reading, Mass./Reading) and Salisbury freshman JENNIFER HOUGHTON (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) were named the CAC Women's Track & Field Co-Athletes Of The Week for their gold medal throwing performances this weekend.
Horrigan broke her own school record for the fourth time this season, winning the javelin against primarily NCAA Division I competition at the George Mason Invitational on Saturday. Horrigan's effort of 38.75m (127-1) provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Division III championship.
Houghton, the CAC Co-Rookie of the Year, captured top honors in the hammer (37.88m), finished second in the shot put (11.23m) and third in the discus (33.86) to lead the Sea Gulls to fourth place in the Mason-Dixon Championships.
