Capital Athletic Conference Announces The April 13 Players Of The Week

York freshman 2B/DH DUSTIN WORTHMAN (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca), Wesley senior pitcher/DH MEGAN STREET (Bridgeville, Del./Epworth Christian), St. Mary's sophomore attack CHRIS BECRAFT (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) and Salisbury senior goalie SONJA STUART (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) were selected as the CAC Athletes of the Week for their respective sports for April 13, 2009.

BASEBALL

York freshman 2B/DH DUSTIN WORTHMAN (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) was named the CAC Baseball Player of the Week after hitting .714 (15-for-21) with a double, five runs scored, four RBI and six stolen bases as the Spartans won four of five games and clinched the No. 2 seed in the CAC playoffs. He had three hits in each game of a doubleheader at Stevenson, then banged out four hits in a mid-week victory over Mary Washington. In Saturday's DH sweep vs. UMW, Worthman ripped five hits.

SPECIAL MENTION: Wesley freshman SS GREG McKEE (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) had three hits and a spectacular defensive play in the ninth inning that preserved a 4-3 over St. Mary's (Md.). With the sacks packed and two outs, McKee dove to his left to field a grounder and backhanded the ball to second base for the force to end the game.

SOFTBALL

Wesley senior pitcher/DH MEGAN STREET (Bridgeville, Del./Epworth Christian) was named the CAC Softball Player of the Week after hitting .444, hurling a pair of critical victories as the Wolverines won their way into the 2009 CAC playoffs. She tossed her second shutout of the season in a win against Stevenson and added a pitching win Friday at Gallaudet that helped clinch a post-season nod. Offensively, her biggest performance was against Widener, where Street doubled and homered.

MEN'S LACROSSE

St. Mary's sophomore attack CHRIS BECRAFT (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) was named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week after scoring two goals in each of SMC's two games, including the game-winner against fifth-ranked Salisbury with less than a second on the clock to give the Seahawks the No. 2 seed in the CAC Tournament and their first win against the 14-time defending conference champion Sea Gulls in 32 years.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Salisbury senior goalie SONJA STUART (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) was named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week after recording a season-high 11 saves and holding top-ranked TCNJ to just six goals as the No. 2 Sea Gulls gained the five-goal victory. Stuart and the SU defense held TCNJ scoreless for 23 minutes during the middle of the contest (just two goals in the last 37:51) and held the visitors more than 10 goals under their season average of 16.78 per contest. Stuart improved to 13-1 with a 7.49 goals against average by holding TCNJ to it's lowest scoring total of the season.
