Mary Washington junior SS SEAMUS BERGEN (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor), York sophomore 2B/P KYLE COOK (Pylesville, Md./North Harford), Salisbury Sr. OF MEAGHAN O'GARA (Northport, N.Y./Northport), Stevenson junior attack RICHIE FORD (Baltimore, Md./Towson) and Salisbury junior attack BETH RHODEY (Fallston, Md./Notre Dame Prep) were selected as the CAC Athletes of the Week for their respective sports for April 6, 2009.
BASEBALL
Mary Washington junior SS SEAMUS BERGEN (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) and York sophomore 2B/P KYLE COOK (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) were named the CAC Baseball Co-Players of the Week after hitting at least .500 and leading their teams to wins in crucial CAC three-game series last week.
Bergen went 7-for-12 (.583) with three doubles and 10 runs
produced as UMW took two of three games vs. second-place Stevenson.
Bergen crossed the plate six times and knocked in four more for the
Eagles.
Cook, who gained CAC weekly honors for the second time in the
last four weeks, hit .625 in four games last week, including a
6-for-12 performance in helping the Spartans win two of three vs.
fourth-place Wesley. In addition to going 4-for-4 twice, he scored
six runs, drove in another and stole a base.
MEN'S LACROSSE
Stevenson junior attack RICHIE FORD (Baltimore,
Md./Towson) was named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the
Week after scoring nine points on six goals and three assists in
road wins at York and Salisbury. Ford scored three of his four
goals vs. Salisbury during a key 5-0 run in the third quarter,
helping the top-ranked Mustangs snap the Sea Gulls' 105-game
unbeaten streak against CAC rivals over the last 14 years.
SOFTBALLSalisbury Sr. OF MEAGHAN O'GARA (Northport, N.Y./Northport) was named the CAC Softball Player of the Week after hitting .600 (9-for-15) with two homers, 10 RBI, six runs scored and three stolen bases in six wins last week. She jacked a two-run walk-off homer in a weekend showdown against then-second place Mary Washington and went 5-for-5 in a twinbill sweep vs. Stevenson.
SPECIAL MENTION: Hood Sr. SS SARA WASTLER (Rocky Ridge, Md./Catoctin) smacked a walk-off three run homer in Sunday's first-game win at Stevenson, breaking the team record for career RBI (77). It also marked the first time in team history a player hit two homers in a game.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Salisbury junior attack BETH RHODEY (Fallston, Md./Notre
Dame Prep) was named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Player of
the Week after scoring three goals and adding an assist in a pair
of victories as the top-ranked Sea Gulls topped Ursinus and
18th-ranked St. Mary's. Rhodey, who scored the game-winning goal at
Ursinus and added two ground balls, is second on the team in points
(50), goals (34) and ground balls (22) this season.
