Loden, Hoewman And Goimarac Selected For CAC Weekly Tennis Awards

Mary Washington senior RANDY LODEN (Richmond, Va./Godwin), St. Mary's freshman THOMAS HOESMAN (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and Mary Washington sophomore COURTNEY GOIMARAC (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) were selected as the CAC Tennis Athletes of the Week for March 17, 2009.

MEN'S TENNIS

Mary Washington senior RANDY LODEN (Richmond, Va./Godwin) and St. Mary's freshman THOMAS HOESMAN (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) were named the CAC Men's Tennis Co-Players of the Week after winning all of their singles and doubles matches for their respective teams last week.

Loden led 12th-ranked Mary Washington to wins over 18th-ranked Washington & Lee and CAC rival Wesley Saturday. He was perfect in two singles matches and two doubles matches on the day, topping WLU's Jeremy Becht, 6-4, 6-4, and Wesley's Mickey DeSouza, 6-0, 6-0. Loden then teamed with sophomore Kaz Murata to post wins over Washington and Lee, 8-1, and over Wesley, 8-0.

Hoesman won all three of his matches at No. 4 singles to improve to 8-2 on the season. He posted an 8-0 win at Lincoln (Pa.), a 7-5, 6-1 victory at Gwynedd-Mercy, and a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at Misericordia. He then teamed up with Robbie Bourdon to win all three matches at No. 3 doubles (8-0 at LU, 8-4 at GMC, 8-5 at MU). The duo is now 8-0 on the season, tied for the team-lead with 8 wins.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Mary Washington sophomore COURTNEY GOIMARAC (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) was named the CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after nearly leading #6 Mary Washington to an upset of #2 Washington & Lee on Saturday. Goimarac was responsible for two team points in UMW's 5-4 loss. She opened the match vs. W&L by joining freshman Katie Schafer in topping Ann Morris and Trelsie Sadler, 9-8 (2) in doubles. Goimarac then beat Ellen Yeatman, 6-1, 6-3, at two singles. Later Saturday, Goimarac won at two singles against Catholic, 6-2, 6-0, and winning 8-0 at two doubles against the Cardinals.
