Salisbury freshman DANIEL BARNAS (La Plata, Md./La Plata), York sophomore TRAVIS KLEIN (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), Salisbury junior JACKIE BURR (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney), Hood senior MATT HAYNES (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville), Salisbury junior CORY BEEBE (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf) and Hood senior JESSICA PARRISH (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) were selected as the CAC Tennis Players of the Week for March 10, 2009.
MEN'S TENNIS
Salisbury freshman DANIEL BARNAS (La Plata, Md./La Plata) and York sophomore TRAVIS KLEIN (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) were named the CAC Men's Tennis Co-Players of the Week after winning four matches for their respective teams last week.
Playing at No. 4 singles, Barnas needed three sets to win his match against NYU and straight sets in a victory against North Carolina Wesleyan. In doubles play, Barnas paired with Andrew Nottage for 8-3 (NYU) and 8-4 (NCW) victories in the No. 2 position. He helped the 22nd-ranked Sea Gulls to a 1-1 team record last week.
Klein went 4-1 at No. 6 singles during the Spartans' spring trip to Hilton Head, S.C. All four of Klein's wins were in straight sets, and his only loss was to a player from NCAA Division II Kutztown.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
Salisbury junior JACKIE BURR (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) was named the CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after leading the Sea Gulls to victory in their only match of the week, a 6-3 decision over NYU. Burr won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, then teamed with Anna Marie Kable to post an 8-3 victory to improve to 2-0 this season at No. 1 doubles.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Hood senior MATT HAYNES (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Salisbury junior CORY BEEBE (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf) were named the CAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Co-Athletes of the Week after record-setting performances at the Salisbury Opener this weekend.
Haynes finished second in the hammer throw, then posted school records with a third-place finish in the discus (108-10) and a fourth-place finish in the javelin (154-4). He helped lead the Blazers to second place in the team standings.
Beebe, a two-time All-American, set a school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in his first 400-meter hurdles race of the season (53.20). Beebe also doubled his gold by capturing top honors in the 110-meter hurdles (15.04).
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Hood senior JESSICA PARRISH (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) was named the CAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week after winning two individual events and anchoring the top 4x100 relay team at the season-opening meet at Salisbury. Parrish set team records in winning the 100 (12.6), triple jump (35-3) and helped the relay team set the new school standard. She also placed fourth in the long jump, helping the Blazers to second place in the team standings.
