January 21, 2008 CAC Announces Weekly Award Winners For Jan. 21, 2008

Mary Washington senior center LIZ HICKEY (Virginia Beach, VA/Bishop Sullivan), Salisbury sophomore guard GREG PALMER (Salisbury, MD/Salisbury Christian), St. Mary's senior guard TYSON LESESNE (Edgewood, MD/Edgewood) , Hood sophomore ERICA HAMOR (Nanjemoy, MD/Lackey), St. Mary's junior BRIE McDOWELL (Doylestown, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) and Salisbury freshman DREW ROBICHAUD (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) have been named the Capital Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week in their respective sports for Jan. 21, 2008.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Mary Washington senior center LIZ HICKEY (Virginia Beach, VA/Bishop Sullivan) is the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 21, 2008, after posting a pair of double-doubles and leading the Eagles to a victory in the battle for first place against Marymount. Hickey had 11 points, 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks as UMW took over sole possession of first place with a road win at Marymount. She also had 12 points, 11 boards and three blocks in 23 minutes, her third-straight double-double, and added three blocks in 23 minutes for the fifth-ranked Eagles at Wesley. It is Hickey's third CAC Player of the Week award this season.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Salisbury sophomore guard GREG PALMER (Salisbury, MD/Salisbury Christian) and St. Mary's senior guard TYSON LESESNE (Edgewood, MD/Edgewood) were named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week for Jan. 21, 2008, after helping their respective teams snap long losing streaks last week.

Palmer averaged 20.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in two games last week for SU, including a career-high 27 points in a two-point victory over Marymount, snapping a 12-game slide for the Sea Gulls.  In his only game of the week, Lesesne tallied a season-high 30 points, hitting 50% from the field, and scored six of his team's last seven points in the final 80 seconds of the game, breaking a 79-79 tie, as the Seahawks halted a five-game skid with a three-point triumph over Gallaudet. It is the second time this season Lesesne has captured the weekly CAC award.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Hood sophomore ERICA HAMOR (Nanjemoy, MD/Lackey) and St. Mary's junior BRIE McDOWELL (Doylestown, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) are the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Co-Swimmers of the Week for Jan. 21, 2008 after each earned three gold medals and leading their teams to a CAC victory over the weekend.

Hamor was a triple individual winner (1,000 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke) as Hood posted its first converence victory of the season against Gallaudet.  McDowell captured top honors in the 200 individual medley and the 200 backstroke, the contributed the first leg of the first-place 400 medley relay, as the Seahawks evened their CAC record at 2-2 with a 35-point triumph over Salisbury.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Salisbury freshman DREW ROBICHAUD (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) is the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 21, 2008, after winning two individual events in a 127-78 victory over St. Mary's. Robichaud took top honors in the 100 freestyle (10:41.49) and the 200 backstroke (2:06.21) as the Sea Gulls won their fourth-straight meet.
