Salisbury Announces 2007 Hall of Fame Class
SALISBURY, MD. - Salisbury University athletics has
announced its 2007 Hall
of Fame class and five former student-athletes from the same
class,
1997, will be inducted ten years later on Friday, October 19, 2007
as
part of Homecoming weekend. The five inductees are Robert Jacob
Bergey,
Jennifer Lynn Bowman, Susan Fatz Mancha, Christopher James
McQueeney and
Matthew Thomas Tirschman. A reception and banquet will be held on
Friday
evening at the Guerrieri University Center in the Wicomico Room in
their
honor.
The Salisbury University Hall of Fame Induction is one of the
premier
events of the year for the SU Athletics Department. The formal
event
recognizes the men and women, past and present, whose contributions
to
Salisbury University Athletics has been deemed worthy of induction
into
the SU Hall of Fame.
A brief description of this year's inductees:
Jake Bergey (Class of 1997) was a four-year letter winner in
men's
lacrosse, two-time captain, three-time first team All-American and
a
member of back-to-back national championships teams (1994, '95).
Bergey
ranks fourth all-time in goals (169) and points (237) for his
career.
Bergey was selected by the Philadelphia Wings in the fifth found of
the
1998 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft and just finished his
10th
season.
Jen Bowman (Class of 1997) earned letters in volleyball and
softball in
her four-year career. Bowman was selected as ESAC Volleyball Player
of
the Year in 1992 to go along with being named a two-time
all-region
selection. Bowman was also named CAC Player of the Year in
softball
during the 1995 campaign and was selected as a five-time
all-conference
member (two volleyball and three softball selections). Bowman
is
currently the head volleyball coach at Trinity College (Mass.) and
an
assistant softball coach. She is also a physical education
instructor at
the school. Bowman is currently on the SU Varsity Club board.
Sue Fatz Mancha (Class of 1997) earned letters in field hockey
and
women's lacrosse. Mancha was a three-time All-American in field
hockey
(two first-team and one third-team selections). In 1995, she was
named
the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year and currently
ranks
fourth in goals (64), points (145) and was the all-time leader in
both
of these categories upon her graduation. Mancha played two years
of
women's lacrosse where she earned the team's most improved
player
award.
Chris McQueeney (Class of 1997) was a three-time first team
All-American in men's lacrosse. McQueeney was named the Division
III
Defenseman of the Year twice and was the defensive leader for the
1994
and 1995 national championship teams. McQueeney earned Team MVP
honors
twice and was team captain in 1995 and 1996.
Matt Tirschman (Class of 1997) will be inducted for his efforts on
the
men's soccer field where he earned four letters, two Team MVPs,
three
CAC Player of the Year awards, three-time first team All-CAC,
two-time
all-region first team and was a two-year captain. Tirschman
currently
ranks seventh in goals (35), third in assists (27) and third in
points
(97). He went on to play professionally for three different teams.
