The longest distance Becky Akers had swam regularly in competition before this fall was 500 yards. When she joined the Salisbury University freshman swimming team, she was tabbed for the longest events, the 1,000-yard and 1,650-yard freestyle competitions, and made more of a splash then even she had expected.
