CAC Announces March 17 Athlete Of The Week Awards

NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Salisbury senior attack SUE ACKERMANN (Sykesville, Md./Liberty), Salisbury junior goalie RILEY CLARK (Potomac, Md./St. John's College), MIKE CELENZA (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard), Hood junior pitcher JAMIE GARDNER (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), Mary Washington freshman COURTNEY GOIMARAC (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and York junior TIM MOWRER (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley) have been named the Capital Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week in their respective sports for March 17, 2008.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Salisbury senior attack SUE ACKERMANN (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week for March 17, 2008, after scoring 11 goals and dishing out 11 assists in three contests last week as the second-ranked Sea Gulls remained undefeated, including a pair of CAC wins. Ackermann's biggest game was a career-high 12 points on seven goals and five assists as SU stopped 15th-ranked Cortland State, 22-9.

MEN'S LACROSSE

Salisbury junior goalie RILEY CLARK (Potomac, Md./St. John's College) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week award for March 17, 2008 after rejecting 17 of 32 shots as the top-ranked Gulls outbattled Denison for a 6-3 win. Clark recorded seven saves on 13 Denison shots in the fourth quarter, giving the offense time to snap a 3-3 tie and attain the triumph.

BASEBALL

Salisbury Soph. 1B MIKE CELENZA (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week award for March 17, 2008 after lead the Sea Gulls to a three-game sweep over CAC rival Villa Julie. Celenza hit .615 in the series with a double, two homers, seven RBI and five runs scored for the first-place Gulls.

SOFTBALL

Hood junior pitcher JAMIE GARDNER (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week award for March 17, 2008 after winning six of eight games pitched last week, including six complete games with 29 strikeouts and two shutouts, as the Blazers moved into second place in the CAC. Gardner also contributed at the plate with a .318 batting average, including two homers, six runs scored and six RBI.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Mary Washington freshman COURTNEY GOIMARAC (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for March 17, 2008 after moving up two positions to win a pair of No. 1 singles matches for the seventh-ranked Eagles. She also contributed to three victories as UMW took over top honors in the CAC and improved to 10-1 overall.

MEN'S TENNIS

York junior TIM MOWRER (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 17, 2008 after won two singles matches and two doubles matches last week, helping the Spartans down Gettysburg and CAC rival Villa Julie, and extend the team's win streak to seven matches.
